Theater maker Begum Erciyas meets with forest connoisseurs in Latvia

From the 8th till 15th of August NTIL provided an artist residency for theater maker Begum Erciyas (Turkey/Belgium) to prepare a new production “Forest Silent Gathering”.

The premier will take place in April, 2022, in Antwerpen, as part of the international arts center “deSingel” programme. During her research in Latvia Begum interviewed Latvian forest connoisseurs – ornithologist Viesturs Kerus, folklor researcher Sanita Reinsone – in person and recorded some forest biotope sounds. Sound post-processing is happening at the moment, where NTIL helps with translations and archive coordination (for example, speech by Dainis Ivans at the time of the Baltic Road).

“ACT: Art. Climate. Transition” is co-financed by the EU’s programme “Creative Europe
ACT is a European cooperation project on ecology, climate change and social transition. In an era of climate breakdown, mass extinction and growing inequalities we join our forces in a project on hope: connecting broad perspectives with specific, localised possibilities, ones that invite or demand that we act. ACT is a project initiated by 10 cultural operators from 10 European countries, working in the field of performing and visual arts.
