‘Trip to Kiev two days before cease-fire’ is a text written and performed by dramaturg Jānis Balodis and staged by director Valters Sīlis.

‘I see freshly painted bridge railing. Yellow lower parts, blue top. It was not like that before. Lampposts – yellow bottom, blue top. It was not like that. Flags on the roofs of garages. It used to be like that few years ago in Moscow – garage, shanty house and Russian flag. It is new in Kiev. Ukrainian flags on high-rise apartment blocks. A year has passed, my father works in Kiev again, and I visit him’, dramaturg Jānis Balodis.

‘War Notes’ is a reaction of a number of playwrights and directors to the political situation regionally and globally. They write texts inspired by media news, public speeches and statements, texts by bloggers and columnists, which are then staged as public readings. Each presentation is followed by a discussion. Trying to analyse media influence on the individual and collective mind, the young artists reflect upon their personal experience and feelings in the situation when war is happening next to us.

The project is realised by playwrights and directors Ivo Briedis, Aiva Birbele, Matīss Gricmanis, Jānis Balodis, Justīne Kļava, Sergejs Timofejevs and directors Kārlis Krūmiņš, Ģirts Šolis, Dāvis Auškāps, Valters Sīlis, Dmitrijs Petrenko, Viesturs Meikšāns.
