Listen to RadiOh Europa love songs

Since 2018, artists Gemma Paintin & James Stenhouse who work together under the name Action Hero have been driving through Europe asking strangers to sing them love songs. RadiOh Europa is a series of broadcasts of the love songs they have collected. In partnership with ANTI Festival and Homo Novus Festival for Festivals’ Path project they have created a special one off series of podcasts. Year 2022, during the International Contemporary Festival of Theatre “Homo Novus” the recording studio on wheels visited not only Riga, but also Saulkrasti and Limbaži, as well as several Estonian and Finnish cities. As a result, we have created a 10-hour long podcast series “RadiOh Europa” with love songs, which can be listened to both at the festival center of the 2023 “Homo Novus” festival or at any place where you desire.

This 10-hour long podcast series also serves as an inspiration to promote overland or slow travel between the International Contemporary Festival of Theatre “Homo Novus” and Finland’s “ANTI Festival”. 10 hours is exactly the time it takes to get from Riga to Tallinn by bus, to go to Helsinki by ferry and reach the final destination by train – the Finnish city of Kuopio.

Get comfortable, put on your headphones, press PLAY and enjoy a 10-hour long affirmation of the need for love!

Action Hero is the collaboration between artists Gemma Paintin and James Stenhouse. Together they create artworks that expand across multiple creative practices: performance, installation, sound, digital practice and work for public space. Their ongoing interests lie in the iconography of popular culture and its use; both as a weapon and as a shared cultural memory and the languages/texts that are used to talk about these shared spaces. They have toured their work to over 40 countries across 5 continents.

RadiOh Europa is part of Festivals’ Path project. The project is co-curated and co-organised with ANTI Festival. Festivals’ Path project is funded by Ministry of Education and Culture Finland.
