Baltic Take Over

The Baltic performing arts festival “Baltic Take Over” is organized by the association New Theatre Institute of Latvia, the Estonian performing arts center Kanuti Gildi Saal, and the Lithuanian Dance Information Centre. The phrase “take over” used in the festival’s title emphasizes the ambitions of the organizers and selected artists to take over the artistic spaces of the host venues, their publicity channels, and their established audiences, in order to infuse them with the spirit of Baltic performing arts — to renew the multifaceted nature of Baltic identity and to change the way the rest of Europe perceives the Baltic peoples, who are no longer seen merely as a geopolitical framework, a shared culture and history, or a common artistic taste.
