HOMO NOVUS is a progressive person.
HOMO NOVUS is a stranger in the field he works.
HOMO NOVUS is a person who has reached his high status without any help only due to his capability.

HOMO NOVUS is a biannual festival that takes place in Riga, Latvia. Each edition has its theme.

The festival Homo Novus is provocation. It might disturb somebody`s comfort. It can be associated with "the experimental aspect", but that does not serve as the aim. During the 90s a new generation of young Latvian theatre directors has emerged. All of them, like Cicero of Ancient Rome, deserve to be called "Homo Novus": the nonconformist, the upstart, parvenu.

The organiser of the festival is the New Theatre Institute, director of the festival Peteris Krilovs.
