Riga Dance Atelier is international artistic lab that takes place in Riga from September 5 to 16. Five young choreographers have come together to negotiate their different artistic interests and languages and to look for answers to questions “What is the value of artistic work and process? Does artistic process have place outside the rehearsal studio – in the city, in library, in park? Can we offer it to public the same way we offer performances?”

The artists will work in the Free Riga location Zunda dārzs and several public spaces in Riga, appearing in the foyer of Latvian National Library on September 13 and square behing the Latvian National Arts Museum on September 14.

On two nights Riga Dance Atelier will open doors to visitors and invite people to watch, wander around, engage into conversation or participate along with the artists. Visitors of all ages are welcome to come by Zunda dārzs between 18.00 and 21.00 and stay as long as they wish!

Riga Dance Atelier continues the series of ateliers in Brussels, Helsinki, Stockholm and Jyväskylä, initiated by the Finnish choreographer Veli Lehtovaara in 2012.

Riga Dance Atelier is a part of [DNA] Departures and arrivals activities in Latvia and is made possible by support of Creative Europe programme of EU and Latvian Ministry of Culture.
