From July 1 to 6, the documentary work “Physical Evidence Museum” created by Laura Stašāne and Jana Jacuka will visit one of the leading Polish theaters “TR Warszawa”, preluding the program of the festival “Baltic Transfer” and it’s upcoming events in the autumn. The work is also included in the series “You Will Never Walk Alone. Let’s Talk About Abortion” organized by “TR Warszawa” that is focusing on topics that have been stigmatized, denied or avoided in public for a long time. The premiere of the documentary work took place in 2020 at the international new theatre festival “Homo Novus” in Riga, in one of the apartments on Avotu Street.

“Physical Evidence Museum” is a documentary, interactive exhibition and event in a private apartment, where everyday objects are exhibited as witnesses which have been sent to the museum together with stories by women from different parts of Latvia. In Warsaw, this museum will be reconstructed in a private apartment, in addition to the Latvian collection, exhibiting items sent by Polish women and stories about domestic violence. The authors and “TR Warszawa” collaborate with two Polish women’s rights and anti-violence organizations, “Feminoteka” and “Autonomia”, as well as with Polish theatre artists.

As in Riga, during the exhibition in Warsaw a public marathon of violence readings will take place, in which Polish women will read both Latvian and local stories in one event. On July 3, victims of violence together with their voices willoppose silence.

“Theater is one of the few public places where everyone can speak confidently and openly about human problems, without criticism and moralization. With the help of experts, activists and artists and people who have experienced difficulties and injuries themselves, we want to understand the state of society and the mechanisms that guide us, ”say the organizers.

“Physical Evidence Museum” is a work co-produced by the the New Theatre Institute of Latvia, which is a part of the activities of the international platform “Magic Carpets” in Latvia and has been created with the support of the EU program “Creative Europe”.

The festival “Baltic Transfer” in Warsaw will continue on this year on October 19–24, when, in addition to works by Estonian and Lithuanian theater artists, Valters Sīlis and Matīss Gricmanis will take part with an adapted version of the piece “Being a Nationalist” staged by “Dirty Deal Teatro”, which will be performed in collaboration with “TR Warszawa” actors. “Baltic Transfer” is not only the name of the festival, but also the name of the cooperation platform, which is supported by the Baltic Culture Foundation and which unites the New Theatre Institute of Latvia in Riga, State Youth Theatre of Lithuania in Vilnius and Theatre Centre Vaba Lava in Tallinn.
