Thirst by Voldemārs Johansons nominated for the 2017 Purvītis Prize



Homo Novus festival co-production, video installation “Thirst” by sound artist Voldemārs Johansons is among the eight finalists for the  2017 Purvītis Prize, chosen by a panel of international jury from more than 150 exhibitions reviewed over period of the last two years (2014-2016).

Purvītis Prize is the main award in the Latvian visual arts scene which is given every second year. The winner of the 2017 Purvītis Prize will be announced on 17 February 2017 and the exhibition featuring the works of all eight finalists will be presented at the Latvian National Museum of Art.

“Thirst” was created and presented as part of International Festival of Contemporary Theatre Homo Novus in Riga in September 2015. The work has since been on tour and presented in Water. War exhibition in Kortrijk, Santarcangelo theatre festival and festival Parallèle in Marseille. Currently it is being presented in Kochi-Muziris Biennale in Kerala, India.
