Krista and Reinis Dzudzilo’s work “ZRwhdZ. Riga” included in the final of “Purvīša balva 2021”

We are proud that Krista and Reinis Dzudzilo’s installation “ZRwhdZ. Riga” has been selected for the final of national arts award “Purvīša balva 2021”. The work was made as a national exposition and represented Latvia at the 14th Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space, where it was awarded for the best curatorial concept of an exhibit. The producer of “ZRwhdZ” is the New Theatre Institute of Latvia (NTIL). In the same year, work by Dzudzilo duo was exhibited at the Contemporary Art Center “kim?” in Riga.

The installation has been characterized by Dzudzilo with following words: “”ZRwhdZ” is like a formula, a definition of scenography. It is like the golden ratio that allows us to advance towards the perfect space. The acronym comes from Richard Wagner’s last opera Parsifal, ‘Zum Raum wird hier die Zeit’, which translates as ‘Here time becomes space’. These two pillars, Time and Space, are the two legs on which scenography moves.

A few years ago on a trip we purchased a pocket-sized music box which easily fitted on a human palm. But a human can also fit into a music box. Something can originate from this contradiction, this ambivalence that contains puerility and the loss thereof. Scenography asks questions because in its processes the world is discovered anew. Please enter the exit!”

“ZRwhdZ” is the work by scenographers and artists Krista and Reņš Dzudzilo, created in collaboration with composer Krists Auznieks, instrument master Aleksandrs Meijers who co-worked with Jānis Liniņš and Kaspars Putriņš, curator Gundega Laiviņa, producers Sandra Lapkovska and Klinta Harju, technical producer Jānis Liniņš, sound engineer Ivars Ozols, “Dekorāciju darbnīca”, the NTIL.
