Regions.Art.Nature seminar in Hammerfest

On November 5 we invite for the seminar and artist talk Meeting the Unexpected with participants from Iceland, Norway, Finland and Latvia. The seminar is part of the kedja Encounter programme taking place in Hammerfest from November 5 till 7 and gathering more than 200 dance professionals from the Nordic-Baltic region.

The talk evolves around  the experience of placing oneself outside the familiar in the artistic production and the implications of this. The session is based upon participants of the Wilderness project where 10 companies were offered to do residencies and make work in the wilderness. Taking this as a starting point, we will discuss choices of artistic methods in “wilderness” and expand the notion into territories of public/private, working with non-professionals.  Furthermore the following questions will be raised:

Why challenge oneself out of the comfort zone or outside the familiarity during the process?
What to gain when meeting the unexpected?
How to make a collaboration work and what are the conditions?
Is the encounter with the audiences different when the borders between stage and audience is blurring?

With Eeva Muilu (FI), Kristin Ryg Helgebostad (NO), Olof Ingolfsdottir (IS), Janina Rajakangas (FI/UK). The talk is moderated by Laura Stasane (LV). The exercise in perception presented during the talk is by Erik Eriksson (SE) and Krišjānis Sants (LV)>
