In „Vērpete” the Latvian Krišjānis Sants and Swedish Erik Eriksson bring together their keen interest of the moving body, ways of altering sensorial perception and their extensive research of the Baltic traditional music, dance and handicraft. Utilizing the melodic structures of Latvian folk songs and a circular pattern common to many cultures, the two dancers become the evolution of one constantly changing vortex of movement. Turning hand in hand, it is the agreement and commitment to disagree that keeps the dancers moving together.

“Vērpete” was premiered at  the International Festival of Contemporary Theatre Homo Novus and in 2015/2016 won the Latvian theatre award in contemporary dance.

Krišjānis Sants has since graduation of the Latvian Academy of Culture (2011) and P.A.R.T.S. (2014) working both in Latvia and abroad, collaborating with several acknowledged artists like musician Laima Jansone, choreographers Heine Avdal&Yukiko Shinozaki. In his own work Krišjānis has been experimenting ways to transmit the rythmic codes of Latvian ornaments and folk songs into movement. Currently he studies for MA in Scenography in the Latvian Academy of Arts and has been exploring performative ways of affecting the hidden power structures used in everyday relations.
Erik Eriksson is a Swedish dancer and choreographer deriving from an acrobatics and break dance background. Since graduating from P.A.R.T.S. (2014) he has been collaborating with choreographer Daniel Linehan and taught across Europe at institutions such as the Danish School of Contemporary dance in Copenhagen. Erik’s artistic work focuses on exploration and development of  visual, tactile and kinesthetic perceptions of the world.
Mārtiņš Miļevskis is a percussionist and composer, one of the core members of the popular Latvian rock band Astro’n’out. He regularly collaborates with other musicians and collectives a.o. the Brass Orchestra Riga, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, the folk music group Auļi and has written music for documentary films.
Rihards Lībietis is a guitarist and has been playing live concerts since 2010. He has created music for theatre and dance pieces, regularly performs with his band RL Orchestra and has recently released album RL Orchestra Live in Concert.

The tour is organized by the New Theatre Institute  as part of [DNA] activities in Latvia.
