Latvian exhibition at PQ

From June 6 till 16, the world’s largest and leading event of design for performance, scenography, and theatre architecture, is taking place in Prague. The Latvian artists presented in this 14th Prague Quadrennial (PQ) are artist duo Krista and Reinis Dzudzilo with the immersive installation “Z R w h d Z” in Countries and Regions exhibition and 17 set design students from the Latvian Art Academy with the exhibition “Young and Wagner” at the Student section of PQ.

Both exhibitions follow the leitmotiv of this year’s Quadrennial – memory, imagination and transformation, while reflecting about the time which the famous German composer Richard Wagner spent in RigaRiga working on the model of the perfect music theatre, later fully realized in Bayreuth. Is there anything new about Wagner which we could highlight, or present the Quadrennial viewers with? What unites such different scales: that of the young artist with that of the “great” Wagner?

The Latvian participation at PQ is a project produced by New Theatre Institute of Latvia and Latvian Academy of Culture with the support from State Culture Capital Foundation, Ministry of Culture, Latvian Embassy in Prague, as well as the private companies: Airos transport and logistics, Latvijas Finieris, Krāsu serviss, art and technology quarter “Sporta 2”.
